I learnt a vital lesson when I woke up. Without eating absolutely anything, down a beer (Bintang in this case). It was amazing sweet and fulfilling!!!

I felt that I should have made a formal introduction to Bir Bintang at some moment. Its predecessor was the Dutch Beer Giant Heineken. As the Dutch brought "civilization" to Indonesia, they brought with them a brewery to brew the magic juice. After World War II, the Dutch left and the brewery can no longer use the flagship brand. Making use of the red star on Heineken, they created a new brand named "Bintang" (Star in Bahasa). "Best Served with Friends".

It was the first full day in Tuk Tuk and we wondered around the area. There were restaurants around but most people were swapping files. There were hints that it was once a very busy town, filled with tourists and backpackers alike. Due to the various happenings in Indonesia, everything has changed in Tuk Tuk. Though the beer is still flowing (yes it does!), the scenery has not changed, tourists were far and few.

Highlights of the day was my first Tuak (oil palm wine) and daging anjing (dog meat). It was supposed to be great for pom pom (sex). Of course, I indulged myself into more Bintangs. Life is supposed to be this wonderful.

The invasion of Super Mi. The Indonesians love this by including green vegetables, onions, carrots and eggs. Extremely salty (garum). It threatens the hair colony on your head.
Afternoon in Danau Toba. Heavy clouds covered the skies and kissed the mountains. A fisherman just rowing his sampan lazily in the surrounding. There is no need to rush right?
Look at this picture carefully. As we have an over abundance of open space, we are able to see rain falling over a distance but at my location there was no rain (at least for now).
Young bataks enjoying a game of volleyball on a cloudy afternoon.
Paddy fields forever with the local church in the background.
Here is where all the fun begins. I found a place where I can drink beer and tuak (oil palm wine). Locals were playing guitars and watching the news. Me with the kids. They kept telling "photo, one more please".
The kids with Dutchman Ghieleng. He had been on Pulau Samosir for 5.5 weeks. His is 52 but makes me feel that he is only 25. Funny guy. Drinks wine and tuak everyday.
Me with the kids again (with my third glass of tuak, my third). The 18 year old lady called Resnita, the youngest called Catherina. The middle girl called Anita (not in picture). Cigarette smoke precedes the picture. Resnita asked me how much it will cost to do high school in Singapore. It sort of gave me a mixed feeling. She also asked me to teach her mandarin. For the Chinese tourists, I suppose.
5 star photo. Me with another Bintang. Quenching my thirst in this not-so-forgiving world. Enough said.
Bakar anjing (BBQ dog). Death falls upon Tuk Tuk.
