And so the story goes, each team was given 13 clues (i.e. a picture with a short paragraph attached). The picture denotes the exact orientation of the photograph which the team must take to show that they have been there. To add more "fun" to this, each team will have to complete an unintelligent "road block" (see this).

After rushing ourselves silly for the day, we managed to complete all tasks except for the clue on some Japanese Cemetery. Buzz Lightyear became the 19th team (there were 21 teams in the race) to get the checked flag though the team was the 13th team overall (based on merit). There were no prizes for teams below the top 5 teams. I guess one can't always win. But maybe, we should have done better if not for the "pit stops" we had.

On a personal note, writing this blog was more difficult than I thought (yes, I am struggling with it right now on the train). It's probably a "love" and "hate" relationship. Is there any other place in this world where you can:
1) be walking on the streets late at night without the fear of being mugged?
2) be damned for chewing gum on the streets?
3) be a member of the National Library and not PAY a cent for all the travel guidebooks you read?
4) be classified as a citizen of the "FINE" country?
5) be swimming in public pools for a cost of S$1.50 per day?
6) be smoking in nice yellow boxes?

Happy 41st birthday, Singapore!

Disclaimer: Enough Said. I still love my country. After all, this is the country that gave me what I am today. Perhaps I am too cranky for anyone's liking, but nevertheless a responsible citizen who never littered on the streets.

As of all games, we are bound to do something really silly. The "roadblock" was to get 10 people to smile and do a V sign. It was really dumb: but we managed to find folks at Clementi Hawker Center who were really sporting (only after some persuasion from ML) and they kindly obliged.

Dragon Kiln, Lorong Tawas, just after PIE Jalan Bahar exit. It was a place where they make clay pots; it was 6th clue as well.
Hay Diaries, Lim Chu Kang. This was a place where they raise goats for the milk. That place was really near my camp when I was serving my National Service.
Side view of a shed where the goats are kept.
After the "goatee" farm visit, we drove all the way east for our next clue. The original Changi Chapel was just a small shed which the Allied POWs built as a place of worship while they were interned here by the Japanese during WWII. A newly refurnished museum surrounds the chapel.
Our 9th clue was a queer temple by the sea in Loyang. The Loyang Tua Pek Gong temple's main shrine houses the Taoist Tua Pek Gong. However, it also houses a Datuk (of Malay Origin) and other Hindu gods.
Singapore Armed Forces Yacht Club, Changi Clubhouse. Built entirely on reclaimed land (hidden in a quiet corner in eastern Singapore), I have to admit that it’s really out of the place.
Back to civilisation? Yes, we were. Buzz Lightyear drove back to a bit of greenery right smacked in the urban jungles of Singapore.
This serves 2 primary purposes: (1) Keeping yourself entertained while waiting for your team mates and (2) Wasting memory for your SD card. It was taken after a 10minutes jog on the hills after going on the wrong direction.
The last clue that we did for the race (Fort Canning Hill) before we rushed back to meeting point@Plaza Park Royal. The day was coming to an end.
