What do the following references (Emerald City, Starbucks & Jimi Hendrix) have in common? No points if you got the answer right. But if you don't, for goodness sake, GOOGLE!

By sheer luck, I found myself travelling to Seattle (Washington) for business; this was just a year later after travelling to Cedar Rapids (Iowa) for my first overseas business trip. Things happened so fast and it seems like I was flying before I knew it. The plan was pretty straightforward; 24 hours of travelling including transit - Singapore, Seoul, San Francisco and Seattle. Don't know if this is plain coincidental, but all cities I pass through begins with the same alphabet; I call this the "S" trip.

When I first stepped out of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (or simply Sea-Tac), the weather was (or so I thought) unconventionally cold. But mind you, it's right in the middle of summer but the skies were grey and dull (at least for the first day). With all due respect to Londoners, it simply reminded me of the metropolis minus the pollution.

On paper, there wasn't time for leisure; I was travelling on business afterall. But then again, I managed to "stole" myself an evening and visited Seattle after work for the day was completed. When I thought I was all ready to roll after boarding Bus 150 (USD$1.25, 45mins) from my hotel, something went wrong. After 30mins, every passenger started alighting at some quiet town. And so I thought, this was Pike Place.

It obviously wasn't the case. I was in Kent, a southern suburb town in Seattle. The idiotic me had went off in the opposite direction. By the time I got to the real thing, it was already 8.30pm (though it was still pretty sunny due to summer). And in downtown Seattle, at that hour of the day, was probably worth no more than a couple of resturants/pubs, a closing (or closed) Pike Place Market and the wonderful sunset over the Waterfront. The wretched me might be wrong though.

As I held on to my "Economy-Class" boarding pass, the question to ask was if I would get a upgrade? - Thoughts of Changi Airport, 17 Jun 07, greyish Sunday morning

After getting my directions all wrong by boarding the bus moving in the different direction, I managed to catch Seattle basking in the last rays of 18 Jun 07.

P.s: If you look carefully on the left, the 2 hemispheric structures are Safeco Field and Qwest Field. These are the home stadiums of Seattle Mariners (Baseball) and Seattle Seahawks (American Football) respectively.
The all-famous Pike Place market. At the junction of Pike St and 1st Ave. Note the time (on the signboard) was nearly 2050hrs and it was still bright!
A partial shot of Left Bank Books (a bookstore selling books on communism and socialism). If I ever get a chance to visit the bookstore again (it was closed when i was there), I will take a full shot of the shop.
The main arcade of the Pike Place Market. It was all washed and cleaned up and the last workers were ready to go after a full day at work.
My artistic shot of the flagship Starbucks outlet (opened in 1971) right smacked in Pike Place. Notice the logo and its difference from other Starbucks.

Although I was dying for a pee, I got a tall "Normal Brew" (USD$1.75, see picture). Incidentally, I was their last customer of the day (they closed at 9pm).
A sunset view of the Elliott Bay, Seattle.
Just a touristy shot to show that I have been to Pike Place Market. This was probably a defunct bus-stop now used as a icon.
It was just an hour later (see picture above) and it became pitch dark. - wyattwang in Seattle, 18 Nov 07, 2157hrs.
Just a nominal shot on some back alley in downtown Seattle. Reminded me of movies where some loser got thrown into some rubbish dump.

The loser couldn't find any loser that evening.
