After
checking in into Imperial Hotel (Bukit Bintang), we had
a 2-hour rest and head out immediately to the streets of
KL. It's was a wonderful Friday afternoon and we see loads
of office commuters wearing very colourful Baju Kurong and
shopping in downtown KL. We went to Chinatown (Jalan Petaling)
and it was so crowded till we thought no one works in KL.
We
continue to check out the city by going to places like the
Central Market, Merdeka Square, National Museum, Jalan TAR
(Little India) and Chow Kit. Though our legs were so sore
after all the walking, we both agreed that we covered and
saw alot of KL which usual shoppers would not see (though
I think there are still more things left undiscovered).
The various train services helped us in getting around though
it wasn't that cheap and we would wish we had a combined
system for the whole of KL. KL alone had at least 4 operators
on train systems. This means everytime we switch trains
belonging to different operators we have to buy a new ticket! |

Pp
at Bukit Bintang Monorail station. The entire station is
sponsored by coke and thus, we can find all sorts of Coke
advertising. Being a coke addict, I cannot resist taking
a corny shot at pretending to drink from the giant Coke
bottle. What a way to have fun in such a hot weather! |
 |
Near Jalan
Cheng Lock, Chinatown. I was reading the
KL map from the Lonely Planet. People in the background
waiting to cross the streets. |
 |
At Jalan
Petaling eating Wanton mee (Dumpling noodles, Rm5). Not
too bad, but portion pretty small and perhaps more catered
for tourists. |
 |
Bb (my ex), Wafer
and A&W Root Beer float. This is one beer which she absolutely
loves. Since A&W pulled out from Singapore, Waffle lovers
are finding it hard to survive without their favourite American
junk food. Bb (my ex) saw an A&W resturant and we hop in immdiately
to escape the hot weather. Glad to know that they still
serve root beer in frosty mugs! |
 |
At Jalan
Yap Ah Loy, named after the "founder" of KL. Many
people disputed on this belief, but I suppose it really
doesnt matter now. It also happens to be the shortest street
in KL. |
 |
Bb (my ex) at
entrance of Central Market. Long time ago, it was KL's central
wet market, selling fresh food. Just before it was due to
be demolished, the order came to restore it by selling handicrafts
and art pieces. Will defintely recommend a KL visitor to
at least take a walk at the living piece of history. |
 |
Using
the ever-reliable timer function, we took a picture in front
of Merdeka Square. This setup is very familiar and can be
seen in Penang and Singapore (and yes we been to all 3).
There is also a Malaysian flag surrrounded by 14 other states
flags (13 are states + KL). Nice environment with a couple
of important buildings. The muesum was also just beside
this area. |
 |
Bb's (my ex) special
request to visit Coliseum Cafe along Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman
(Jalan TAR) didnt disappoint us AT ALL. Dont be misled by the
empty traffic, it was actually such a busy road that we
had to wait awhile before crossing it. |
 |
Surprise,
surprise! It looks really old from the outside, but the
restuarant was very colonial and more retro than retro.
It oozes the feeling of the 30s and the food smells good
as well (though we didnt had a chance to try). This place
houses a nice bar which I had a beer (Rm7.50) and Bb (my ex) had
a Coliseum's Special Orange Juice (Rm6!). We must try the
Sirloin Steak next time and perhaps stay here for a night
for our next KL trip. |

Back to
the 30s. Coliseum Cafe Kuala Lumpur. The dirty table cloth
tells it all. |
