Had the USUAL guesthouse breakfast at Garden City House (told myself I am NOT going to eat bread for the next 2 weeks when I get back home) before the final packing up. During our journey to the airport, we observed police escorts lining themselves up beside Al-Uruba (Airport Road). I suppose it must be for some VIP (after all, you do need a lot of people to cover 8kms - distance between from Heliopolis to the airport!). The rest was pretty uneventful; check-in was smooth and we spent our last Egyptian Pounds eating very lousy "Chinese" food in an airport cafe.

It has been a rather interesting experience travelling in Egypt. The journey was pretty simple; traversing along the Nile connecting the national capital to a tiny town just 40kms away from Sudan. We went to many places which we had only seen previously in books or television; some looked really magnificent (e.g. Great Temple of Ramses II) while others was not as daunting as most would expect it to be (e.g. The Sphinx). There were cities where everywhere seems so crowded (e.g. Cairo) whereas we had the entire town to ourselves (e.g. Abu Simbel). Every day seems so diverse somehow.

Looking at the itinerary retrospectively, it was probably not significantly different from a typical tour group program. With all the time constraints, it was near to impossible from doing anything more rather than just a "been there done that". In spite of this, I was rather proud of us in completing the trip independently (as always when I travel).

When my friends knew I had been to Egypt (through the photos in Facebook), a common question was if I really liked it. To be honest, it would probably not rank no. 1 in my travel wish list. However, this trip fulfilled Sally's life-long wish of visiting the country (she first got to know about Egypt via a popular Japanese comic called "Crest of the Royal Family"). I knew she really enjoyed and appreciated the trip when she made the following comment below:

"Without you, my dream (of visiting Egypt) will still remain a dream till the day I die."

Till we travel again. The end.

They do have attractive lingeries here. :)

- impressions of Talaat Harb, Cairo, Egypt

This was a rather good photograph taken at a stall located among one of the street leading from Talaat Harb. The vegetables look FRESH.

Note: Sally was helping me to choose the lovely ripe tomatoes!! Only EŁ1.5 (or S$0.38) per kilogram.
Though I do not necessary agree with their choice; but Pepsi seems to be a more popular drink as compared to Coke.
A morning view of Cairo (with the Nile and Cairo Tower in the background) from our guesthouse.
Sally certainly enjoyed our "private" suite at Garden City House!
Other than the usual room (it also came with a little nice basin), there was a private bath room "attached" (see the room that is at the far end of the corridor). Overall, it was great staying there!

p.s.: Just like all other previous guesthouses where we had stayed during our trip, a twin room (with 2 single beds) were always issued rather than a double room (with a double bed).
Just before we left for the airport, I forced Sally to photograph me with 2 backpacks so that I could reminisce (or drown myself silly in my own ego) the days where I carried almost all of our belongings.
While we were on a taxi heading for the airport, we saw police officers stationed every 50 meters on the kerb while having the backs facing the road.

Someone really important must be coming or leaving Cairo.
I was watching Happy Together (for the 25th time!) on my iPhone as my personal in-flight entertainment system malfunctioned throughout the entire duration of the flight.

Was really unlucky but got some gift vouchers as compensation from the airline.
My memories of Dubai were as hazy as this photograph; we stayed on the plane (as we were not allowed to get off) during both times when the plane landed for a transit stop. :(

p.s.: Photograph was taken when plane was departing for Sillypore.
