Although I am not a die-hard fan of temples, I still make it a point (since I am already here in India) to visit them whenever I can squeeze time from my hectic work schedule. One of them was the infamous Bull Temple in the southern Bangalore. Built in the 16th century (in the era of Kempegowda), the temple contains the huge idol Nandi (the bull which Lord Shiva rides and is the gate keeper of Shiva in Hindu mythology), made with a single piece of granite. Although the temple is not large (though it is said to be the largest Nandi temple in the world), it can certainly be one of the most lively and atmospheric temple in Bangalore.

Before I go on and on about the crappy things I did in Bangalore and lose track of my "purpose", let's talk about this trip from a personal perspective. I never thought I had the opportunity to work in an overseas assignment, and not to mention India as the destination. For all those "corporate-world-stuck-backpacker-wannabies" out there, it may all seems like a wonderful dream. In fact, I actually went to the toilet and gave my cheeks a huge smack after my boss's announcement on her India plans for me; all these just to confirm that it was real. There is a certain amount of confidence and trust bestowed upon me when I am given such a huge responsibility for my limited caliber.

But working in a foreign country isn't always a bed of roses (anyway, even roses have thorns, so being on a bed of roses may not necessarily be a good thing). The changing (sudden) of working environment, missing the food one is familiar with, spending weeks away from the family and (most importantly) being alone - provided me with a new insight (or more questions) to life. What do I want from life? Climbing the dazzling yet slippery corporate ladder? Following the safe yet silly society conforms? Behaving obediently towards the Big Brother?

Motivators may say all this is good training for the mind. But then again, I sometimes wondered if I even care.

Hail the marvels of eating with a banana leaf and one's hand; nothing can be hygienic than that (minus any pesticide remains on the leaves though).

The temple caretaker performs a blessing (by throwing a coconut on the floor and ringing the bell) while Nandi looks on in Dodda Basavana Gudi (a.k.a. Bull Temple).

Just a picture of a lady that I saw at the Bull Temple.

Kids are always so willing to pose for photographs.

Was initally interested in shooting a picture of the deity that was on the roof of the Bull Temple. After checking the picture, I realised the pigeon had built on the nest on the deity's head!
If one observed carefully, there are interesting details littered around Hindu Temples. For example, there are 4 deities depicted (picture shows one) at each corner of the temple to "support" the building structure.
Clothes were hanged out in the afternoon breeze for drying.

It somehow gave me a sense of peace and tranquility.
After leaving the Bull Temple, I found a little park (both the temple and the park are on the Buegal Rock) that was buzzling with activities on a Sunday afternoon.

I don't think it's a pre-requsite to laugh when one is in the Buegal Rock Laughter Club. At least I don't see everyone laughing anyway.
A grandma smiling happily as she watches her grandchildren play.

A bunch of jasmine flowers; a handful of blessings.

p.s.: Got the jasmine flowers from the temple caretaker when I left the temple.
