We
woke up early in the morning for a farang breakfast at the
guesthouse. Banana crepe with fresh fruits and a small piece
of wholemeal bread. Not too bad, but very farang. Perhaps
I should find a book and lie on bed, with a beer of course.
On second thoughts, maybe 2 perhaps. 3, 4..., 10...
Of
course I didn't do that. After farang breakfast, we started
out on a trekking route (Monkey Forest & Penestanan)
suggested by LP. The time needed was estimated to be 2 hours.
We took almost half a day (Start: 0930hrs, Finish: 1400hrs)
and our legs almost broke. Along the way, we simply walked,
observed, fooled around and had fun. Villages, padi fields,
small provision shops (bintang beer at Rp12k), painting
houses were in the itinerary. It was no doubt tiring but
we could not have seen the real Bali (I hope it was real
enough) if we didn't do that walk.
While
we were having dinner after our Bali-styled massage (Rp60k/hour),
we met an American who was staying in Ubud long term. He
told us that his house had a nice view with a padi field
right just in front of his door step. The rent was USD$400
(was certainly not the cheapest), but it included housekeeping
(e.g. changing the flowers in his house every 2 or 3 days).
We
discussed about the previous US presidential elections (was
it rigged?), Operation Iraqi Freedom (as it was so fondly
flashed on the screens of CNN) and terrorism in general.
He believed that Terrorism was wrong, but the rationale
behind it was not unexplainable. While I shall not go into
details, something he said caught my attention. His mother
wanted him to return home immediately after the second bombings
in Bali (Oct 05). He refused, because he believed that this
was what the terrorists wanted. Even if he was to die someday
due to a bomb, he knows that it was god that wanted him
to die this way, not the terrorists.

Although
it was only 10am, the sun was scorching hot. We saw alot
of padi fields along the trek, just after Dangin Lebak Community
Hall. White clouds were surrounding the skies, like large
pieces of cotton wool floating on the vast blue "sea". |

Technically,
this was our first Warung food in Bali. Warung Java was
"hidden" behind Pasar Ubud. I had some ayam goreng
(nice), ikan goreng and kari nangka (a.k.a Jackfruit Curry).
Bb (my ex) had something similar. Think it cost us Rp14k. Couldn't
recall the actual price. |
