The
plan was pretty simple for the 5-nights stay in Bali. Since
we arrived on a late flight, We will stay in boring Kuta
for the first evening, while we move on to Ubud for a "bit"
of culture for the next 3 nights, while we will come back
to Kuta for some last minute walk around before boarding
the flight back to Sillypore.
My
first experience in Ubud was definitely refreshing. There
were no jams! Anyway, scores of shops were selling paintings,
artifacts and other "artsy" stuff. As it was pretty
warm at noon, I took a siesta upon finding accommodation
and what a sleep that was. The weather was certainly different
during the late afternoon and it rained like cats and dogs.
Slept and slept like I never slept before. I called it Ubud
Slumbers.
Waking
up from her constant rumbling, I finally woke up at 5pm
and realised I had slept through a precious afternoon. We
left the guesthouse and went about in central Ubud. The
orientation was pretty straight forward: The 2 main roads
are Jalan Wanara Wana (or Monkey Forest Road) and Jalan
Raya Ubud. Needless to say, the cultural "action"
was at the junction of the 2 roads. As it was a Saturday
that we arrived, there were some touts promoting tickets
to various cultural performances (Rp50k). Perhaps it was
fabricated but maybe I should have gotten her to watch it
since we have came a long way to reach Ubud. |

Why
the need for a door when you can climb over? Behind the
door is the paddy field beside our guesthouse. |
 |
Accomodation
was Pramesti Guesthouse at Rp80k/nite with breakfast "thrown
in". I thought it was quite good value as we were staying
in a nice bungalow with hot water in the attached bathroom
and a small garden for us to relax. Location was a rough
2mins walk away from the main road. Very quiet and a good
place to chill out (that's why I am in deep Ubud slumbers). |
 |
Along
Jalan Kajeng. There were nice "drawings" on cement
slabs along the walking pavement. I liked the Balin style
hut as drawn by a certain guy called Daniel. |
 |
Bb (my ex) was
brushing her teeth and I was taking a picture of me taking
a picture in front of the mirror. *Blur* I suppose it's
only in Bali when you can find such mirrors. |
 |
Viewing
the not-so-friendly world through a beer bottle. If everything
was that bloody simple... |
 |
Doing
a "Wong kar Wai" by digging a small hole on the
wall and hide all my troubles into it. Eh, it sounds more
like I was trying to steal a peek. Plain role acting. |
 |
A poor
imitation of David Bowie's Lodger: More play acting. I particulary
like long stretches of narrow pavements as I can pretend
to be in some sort of a time tunnel. |
 |
In Angkor
Wat?? Nope, this was Pura Dalem Agung (Temple of the Dead),
in the Mandala Wisata Wanara Wana (Sacred Monkey Forest
Sanctuary). We couldn't enter though as we were both wearing
bermudas. Admission was Rp10k/person. As we didn't have
change, the nice guy charges admission for both at Rp15k
though we only got 1 ticket. |
 |
A monkey
digging his partner's ass? I don't know. Maybe they were
just grooming one another. If you like no holds barred with
monkeys, you should like this place. I kinda dislike monkeys,
especially when they like to follow you around while "asking"
for food. |
 |
We went for one of those
trekking routes as suggested by the Lonely Planet guide.
Although it stated that the walk can be completed in 2hours,
but we were slow walkers and it took us almost half a day.
This was a bridge over Sungei Wos at Dangin Lebak. There
were 2 stone figurines staying guard (with offerings) at
the bridge. Picture shows the right figurine. |
